General Guidelines for Shotcrete Thickness in Tunnels:
Application Typical Thickness
Initial support layer 50 mm to 100 mm (2–4 in)
Additional support layer 100 mm to 200 mm (4–8 in)
Final lining (if used) 150 mm to 300 mm (6–12 in)
Additional Considerations:
Multiple layers may be sprayed to reach the final required thickness, especially if thick applications are needed.
Steel fibers or mesh reinforcement may be included in thicker layers for strength.
Thickness should match engineering design, especially in critical zones like crown, springline, and invert.
Use test panels and core samples to verify in-place thickness and quality.
Always follow the project-specific engineering drawings and specifications, as they take into account unique conditions and safety requirements.
